Cornwall Butterfly Conservation
Following a meeting of enthusiasts in late 1992 it was decided to form a regional branch for Cornwall of Butterfly Conservation. Cornwall’s branch was duly launched on 9th June 1993 at Luckett by Dr Jeremy Thomas amongst hundreds of Heath Fritillary butterflies at the Duchy of Cornwall Nature Reserve. This was followed by a fascinating illustrated talk in the evening on the life history of the Large Blue butterfly in Britain at Truro Museum.

Recording
Our County Recorder for butterflies, John Worth, will be pleased to receive your Cornwall butterfly records.
Field Trips
We organise butterfly field meetings each year at many different and varied locations which cover most of the species found in Cornwall. We have over 150 members, many of whom take an active part in attending these lively field meetings.
Surveys and Monitoring
We also undertake surveying and monitoring of our rarer residents such as the Heath Fritillary, Marsh Fritillary, Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Silver-studded Blue, Large Blue and Grizzled Skipper butterflies.
Habitat Management
With help from various conservation organisations and partners, we assist habitat management for rare species whose habitat is threatened by scrub invasion. This has resulted in saving from certain extinction the last surviving colonies in Cornwall of the Heath Fritillary.
Email community -Yahoo Groups
You are invited to join Cornwall Butterfly Conservation's Yahoo! Group for partaking in news, views, latest sightings and uploading photos.

We publish a regular newsletter (The Butterfly Observer) 3 times a year which is very much a member participation publication packed full of colour photos, member’s observations, news on local conservation issues concerning our butterflies, as well as notification of forthcoming events and field meetings.
